Florida Highwaymen Featured Artist
George Buckner
George Buckner was born in 1942 in Vero Beach, FL. He had 11 siblings and was the oldest of them all. As a young man he was employed in a variety of different industries to help his mother support the family including being a construction worker, picking oranges, cutting lawns and even being a part of a band as a bass guitar player. After meeting fellow Highwaymen Harold Newton, and Livingston Roberts he was introduced to their business model and left all of his other jobs to pursue painting full time. He is widely considered to be one of the most precise and detailed painters of the group. He passed away in 2002, a couple of years before being inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. |
