Ellis Buckner

Information is limited about Ellis Buckner. What information exists come from his brother, fellow Florida Highwaymen George Buckner and his son Ellis Buckner jr. He was born in 1943 in Gifford, Fl. Legend has it. that he sold his first painting at the age of 10 but was later disappointed in the quality of that painting and returned to the buyer to give him a better painting. He was mentored early on by Harold Newton and was financially successful selling his paintings with the other Highwaymen. He often took longer on his paintings than some of his fast-painting peers. He passed way in 1991 but was inducted in the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2004.
