Robert Butler

Florida Highwaymen Featured Artist

Robert Butler

Robert Butler was born in Baxley, Georgia in 1943 and moved with his family at the age of 4. He had an interest in hunting as a young child and this practice and experience came in handy later on as an artist as he was able to paint the wilderness with a unique detail. He was never directly influenced by the Florida Highwaymen but developed his own form of fast-painting and selling. Robert Butler became one of the most prominent Florida artists on his own accord by the 1990s and owned his own gallery in Lakeland, FL, selling his paintings for thousands of dollars well before most other Highwaymen commanded such prices. Robert Butler passed away in 2014 and was said to have painted every Florida ecosystem in existence.
